Kalaburagi (Karnataka) [India], October 14 (ANI): Reiterating the Congress leaders allegation that the Centre has done injustice by allocating less funds to Karnataka in the tax devolution, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has said that they will raise the issue in Parliament as many states in south India are not getting their share.
"From our Government side Chief minister said on it and our Government will fight for it. Many states in south India are not getting their share. CM Siddaramaiah has also argued about it. We will raise this issue in Parliament," Kharge said.
The Union Government recently released tax devolution to the state governments in which Karnataka got Rs 6,498 crore, which the Karnataka Congress leaders have argued is low compared to other states.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday alleged that Karnataka pays much higher tax but gets less devolution.
"Karnataka is getting a raw deal. Our state has got lesser devolution than Northern Indian states and Andhra Pradesh. We pay a much higher tax, yet we get so less devolution. We will start 'Our tax Our right' campaign in the days to come. Why is that Union Ministers and BJP MPs from the State are not raising their voice for the state in Delhi? The Finance Minister is elected from Karnataka and there are three-four other ministers from Karnataka but none of them have raised their voice regarding this. We want BJP leaders to join hands in this fight," Shivakumar said.
Congress former MP DK Suresh while addressing media on October 11 said that South India is being discriminated.
"Earlier also I spoke about tax devolution...now also they have done the same. They announced Rs 6,498 crores is very low. All over Karnataka, we have received only Rs 28,000 crores. In UP, they got Rs 31,000. South India is being discriminated...I urge Government of India to verify and rectify this immediately," he said. (ANI)
