Sonia Gandhi to raise Gujarat Dalit atrocity issue in Parliament today

New Delhi, July 20 (ANI): Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi is set to raise the issue of atrocities against Dalits in Parliament, particularly the recent case from Gujarat where four Dalit boys were stripped and thrashed brutally on charges of skinning a dead cow. In the Congress Parliamentary Party Meet today, Gandhi asserted that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has snatched away rights of adivasis, Dalits and traditional forest dwellers under forest right act 2006 and was systematically weakening and subverting environmental rights. "Brutal atrocities against SC, ST and minorities are continuing with impunity and shaming us all. The recent shocking incident in Gujarat where four Dalit youths were savagely beaten and humiliated publicly is just one example of the social terror this government condones," Sonia said. Addressing the media here after the CPP meeting, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that Gandhi had pinpointed a very large number of comprehensive failures of the government on comprehensive issues from economy, social and political issues. "For example, while Mr. Modi constantly talks about democracy, constantly sheds crocodile tears on principles and values underlining democracy, their government, their workers go around spreading Uttaranchal's and Arunachal Pradesh's as far as instability is concerned. Only the judiciary has been able to stop their deplorable moves," he said. Singhvi further said that Gandhi also pointed out false promises by the Centre in comparison to ground achievements on issues like exports, employment where absolute lies have been exposed in terms of what has is the truth and the tall claims by the Prime Minister. "She exhorted each one of us to take up the diverse issues in and out of the parliament and to expose the government. Her address was inspiring and comprehensive," Singhvi added. (ANI)
