Social activists demand Kiran Bedi's resignation over 'Beti Bachao Apni Apni' remark
Aligarh/Kanpur [India], May 17, (ANI): Slamming Kiran Bedi's 'Beti Bachao Apni Apni' remark, social activists demanded Puducherry Lieutenant Governor's resignation while saying that politics has changed her. "Such a statement from Kiran Bedi, who was an IPS officer, was no expected. Being a senior post holder, if she gives such statement and slogan, then it doesn't suit her. Does a political party change a person's language to this extent that he/she forgets moral principle? She should resign on the ground of morality," social activist Mariya Alam Umar told ANI. Women activist Heena Jahir said Bedi's statement implies that government is not concerned about women's safety and therefore parents have to take care of their daughters. "What Kiran Bedi wants to say? Does she want to say that it is not government's duty to provide protection to women and therefore parents should take care of their children? Will such slogans help protecting the women?" she told ANI. Condemning the gruesome Rohtak gangrape Kiran Bedi yesterday urged parents across the nation to keep an eye on their boys while saying that instead of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,' the nation should raised 'Beti Bachao Apni Apni' slogan . "Haryana kind of brutal murder with rape and gang rapes will not go away till parents realise their responsibility of careful and watchful nurturance," said Bedi. Taking a dig at the hapless situation of the nation in connection with women security Bedi said that instead of "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao", the new slogan for the nation should be "Beti Bachao Apni Apni." On May 9, a woman was brutally gang-raped and murdered, wherein later her mutilated body was found in an empty plot in Haryana's Rohtak. The incident came to light when the victim's body was found in the city's IMT area. The victim had allegedly refused a marriage proposal, following which the accused reached her home with his friends and allegedly raped and murdered her. The Haryana District court sent the two accused to seven days in police remand. The accused will be produced before the Sonipat District court next on May 22. Earlier, assuring speedy justice by fast track courts, Haryana Chief Minister M.L. Khattar said the culprits involved in the brutal crime will not be spared. "Two of the culprits have been nabbed. The police is actively investigating the matter. Culprits involved in such ghastly acts won't be spared, will ensure speedy justice by fast track courts," Khattar told the media here. (ANI)
