New Delhi [India], September 19 (ANI): Congress leader KC Venugopal said on Thursday that BJP President's reply to the letter written by Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge to Prime Minister Modi over NDA leaders controversial remarks on Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition P Rahul Gandhi "smacks of arrogance".
In a post on X, Venugopal said, "BJP President JP Nadda's reply to INC President Kharge ji smacks of arrogance and clearly shows that since the PM could not even get himself to respond on this very serious issue, the attacks on Rahul ji have his full support."
"The BJP is single handedly responsible for the plummeting standard of political discourse in India," he added.
Nadda today wrote to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in response to a letter Kharge had earlier addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his letter, Nadda slammed Kharge's attempt to defend Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling it an effort to "polish a failed product."
Nadda began his letter by pointing out what he described as Rahul Gandhi's "history" of disrespecting both the Prime Minister and the OBC community. He highlighted Gandhi's controversial statements, including calling the Prime Minister a "thief" and using other inappropriate language. Nadda questioned Kharge's defence of Gandhi, and asked, "Due to what compulsion are you trying to justify Rahul Gandhi?"
Nadda accused the Congress party of damaging Indian democracy through actions such as imposing emergency rule, supporting triple talaq, and weakening constitutional institutions. He said that Congress's "Mohabbat ki Dukaan" is actually promoting "casteism" and "anti-nationalism."
On September 17, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking strict action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders who made controversial remarks about Rahul Gandhi.
In his letter Kharge highlighted that the violent language used by leaders of the BJP and its allied parties is dangerous for the country's future.
This followed Union MoS Ravneet Singh Bittu's remarks, where he suggested that Rahul Gandhi is not Indian and if an award for catching the "number one terrorist" existed, it should go to Rahul Gandhi.
Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad had also offered a reward of Rs 11 lakh to anyone who cuts off Gandhi's tongue. (ANI)
