Patna (Bihar) [India], April 7 (ANI): Congress leader Tariq Anwar on Monday took a veiled dig at the National Democratic Alliance government in Bihar, stating that the condition of the State has deteriorated over the past 20 years.
Speaking to ANI, Anwar asserted that Rahul Gandhi's visit to Bihar was part of the Congress party's election campaign ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in the State.
"This was an election-related visit. He took part in the yatra taken out by students and youth in Begusarai. He urged Congress members to take the message of the party to the masses and make all efforts to win the coming Assembly elections. We want the Congress to start a wave of change from Bihar. There has been a double-engine government in Bihar for the last 20 years, but the situation in the state is now worse. We are confident that the people of Bihar will bring change," Anwar said.
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi earlier today said that the people from weaker sections of society were being treated as second-class citizens.
"People say that the Constitution was drafted in 1947. However, I believe that this Constitution is thousands of years old, and it includes thoughts of Ambedkar ji, Pule ji, Gandhi ji, Nehru ji, Guru Nanak ji and Kabir. The Constitution contains the thoughts of those whom India respects," he added.
He further remembered former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi and said that they both loved truth. "I was asked a question about what your great-grandfather Nehru ji was like and what you learned from him? In the room where I was sitting, there was a picture of not only Nehru ji but also Mahatma Gandhi ji. Looking at that picture, only one thought came to my mind: that both these people loved the truth," the LoP said.
Gandhi also joined the Congress' student wing's (NSUI) 'Palayan Roko Naukri Do' rally in Begusarai on Monday. The rally is being led by NSUI National in charge Kanhaiya Kumar. The Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition will later address a public meeting in Patna.
The Bihar Legislative Assembly election for all 243 constituencies is scheduled to be held in October or November this year. The last assembly elections were held in October-November 2020. (ANI)
