Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], December 29 (ANI): BJP Spokesperson CR Kesavan on Monday took a dig at Congress after All India Professionals' Congress (AIPC) chairman Praveen Chakravarty flagged rising debt under the DMK-led coalition government in Tamil Nadu, which the Congress itself is a part of.
Chakravarty claimed that Tamil Nadu has the highest outstanding debt among all states, and that the state's interest burden is the third-highest after Punjab and Haryana. This criticism of the recent debt trend in Tamil Nadu came despite the Congress being an ally of the DMK in the state, and the two parties are set to contest the 2026 Assembly elections together.
Kesavan, mocking Congress, compared Chakravarty's X post to an own goal in football, and asked if Congress MP Rahul Gandhi agrees with his party member's views on the DMK's governance in the state.
In an X post, Kesavan wrote, "The Congress does a shocking self-goal to expose the disastrous failure model DMK Govt. Does Rahul Gandhi concur with this view that the DMK Govt has utterly failed the people of Tamil Nadu? Do the Tamilnadu CM and Deputy CM agree with this damning view of their ally, the Congress party, that the DMK Govt has plummeted and wrecked the Tamilnadu economy to ruins?"
Further, the BJP leader compared the DMK government to a "directionless car."
"The disastrous DMK Govt is similar to a directionless car. The DMK's unjust, insensitive misrule has been one of the darkest chapters in the history of Tamil Nadu," he wrote.
Earlier on Sunday, Praveen Chakravarty took to X to share graphical data comparing the state debt between Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh and wrote, "TN has the highest outstanding debt of all states. In 2010, UP had more than double the debt of TN. Now, TN has higher debt than UP. TN's interest burden (%) is the 3rd highest after PB & HR. TN's debt/gdp is still much higher than pre-COVID levels. TN's debt situation is alarming!"
All India Professionals' Congress (AIPC) is the party's wing for working professionals and entrepreneurs. (ANI)
