Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 28 (ANI): Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika strongly condemned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday for her 'If Bengal burns, so will Assam' remark.
Speaking to ANI, Minister Hazarika defended the state's governance and highlighted the firm stance against external interference.
"She can't bully, she can't threaten us. She can't control law and order in her state and is threatening us. It will not happen in Assam, I am assuring you," Hazarika said on Wednesday.
Hazarika further expressed his disapproval of Banerjee's approach, urging her to adhere to decorum befitting her long tenure as a Chief Minister. "I would like to request Mamata Banerjee, she is a very senior leader and a long-time CM, she should know how to speak in public. I seriously condemn it," he added.
The Assam Minister emphasized that under the current BJP government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state would not be swayed by external pressures or threats. "I can assure you she can't do anything in Assam until the BJP govt is here and Himanta Biswa Sarma is the CM," Hazarika asserted.
Earlier, Assam CM Sharma hit back at Banerjee saying, "Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don't show us red eyes. Don't even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language."
Banerjee, while speaking at a public function in Kolkata, claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using his party to cause fire in Bengal over the rape and murder incident of a trainee doctor in the state and warned that "if you burn Bengal, other states including Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi too shall burn and your chair will be toppled."
"Some people think this is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh; they speak like us and share our culture. But remember, Bangladesh is a separate country, and India is a separate country. Modi Babu is using his party to cause fire here. If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn! We will topple your chair," Mamata Banerjee said.
BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged on Wednesday that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "straight away threatened doctors" with her statement of not regsitering FIRs against protesting doctors following the Kolkata rape and murder incident.
The BJP MP also criticised the police action on the protestors as he dubbed the CM's statement as a "new strategy to threaten" doctors.
"After the attempt to mislead the probe, save the accused and destroy evidence, now a new strategy to threaten Doctors can be seen. CM did a PC and said 'I don't want FIRs to be registered and their (Doctors) careers get destroyed and they face trouble in getting passports and Visas'. BJP wants to say clearly that Mamata Banerjee has straight away threatened doctors," Trivedi said on Wednesday.
West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for advocating violence and said that "shamelessly inciting gathering" by West Bengal CM is nothing less than a blatant endorsement of revenge politics from the highest office in the state.
In his letter, the Union Minister called for "immediate attention" against the statements made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her address to the Student Wing of TMC today in Kolkata.
The brutal rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor on the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital premises sparked outrage all over the country. The incident shook the entire nation, and since then several protests have been staged demanding justice for the victim.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. (ANI)
