Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 13 (ANI): Maharashtra Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar on Friday expressed concerns over the declining law & order situation in the state of Maharashtra. He also slammed the Eknath Shinde Govt over the 'security of women' in the state.
Addressing a Press Conference, Pawar claimed that there were 19,533 women reported "missing" from the state between January 1 and May 31 this year.
"Law and order issues are going on in Maharashtra. An important city like Nagpur is spoken in a different way. After getting information about it, some things came to light. Our colleagues raised some questions even in the monsoon session. 19 thousand 553 women and girls went missing during the period of five months from January 1, 2023 to May 31, 2023, this includes 1453 girls under 18 years of age. After seeing this number, it is clear that the situation is very serious. It is expected that the state government and the Home Ministry will take serious note of this and devise a remedial plan," Pawar said in a statement.
Earlier, NCP Working President Supriya Sule also slammed the Maharashtra Government over the safety and security of women in the state.
"The central and Maharashtra governments have been a complete failure in terms of the safety and security of women," she said in an address to the media.
In his address on Friday, Pawar also targeted the Maharashtra Government over the 'contractual hiring' of personnel in Mumbai police and said that the recruitment should be done on a permanent basis.
"The state government has decided to make government recruitment on a contract basis. The delegation that met me raised some issues with me. The government has decided to recruit in the police force on a contract basis. Since this recruitment is only for 11 months, what next?", he asked.
Sharad Pawar also said that "since the tenure of the contract system is 11 months, how will the responsibilities given be fulfilled? Therefore, he demanded that "the recruitment should be done on a permanent basis instead of a contract system".
The NCP President also accused Maharashtra Legislative Assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar of using 'delay tactics' on the petition of rebel MLAs.

"NCP and Shiv Sena (UBT) have approached the Supreme Court to give directions to the Maharashtra Speaker to take a decision regarding the disqualification of some MLAs in a time-bound manner. SC can direct the Speaker to make a decision in time time-bound manner. We fear that delay tactics are being used in the matter," Pawar said. (ANI)
