Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 29 (ANI): Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Monday said that it is a "shame" that the National Commission for Women (NCW) has maintained "silence" over the alleged "obscene videos" case linked to JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.
Speaking to ANI, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi whether he would respond to this issue as the PM was in Karnataka today.
"I would want to know that PM Modi is in Karnataka today, is he going to speak about this? PM Modi spoke about Mangalsutra, daughters and mothers, but will he talk about them today?...It is a shame that the NCW chairperson, who should be practicing equal justice for all, continues to maintain her silence. It's a shame that we have a Women and Child Welfare minister who has only chosen selective silence to attack those who are in the opposition rather than speak up truly for the cause of women. It is shameful," Chaturvedi said.
She further said that justice should be done to the women who were exploited.
"I would want everybody who helped the person escape to France to be punished and he should be brought back from France. I'm hoping that justice will be done to the women who were exploited," she added.
Prajwal Revanna was booked in an alleged sexual harassment case on April 28 following complaints by his former housekeeper. The case has been registered under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation and outraging the dignity of a woman.
As per the complaint, the victim has claimed that both HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna sexually assaulted her. The complainant further claimed that when Revanna's wife was not at home, he touched her inappropriately and used to sexually assault her.
The Karnataka government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged obscene video case against MP Revanna. The SIT, headed by IPS officer Vijay Kumar Singh, and including DG CID Suman D Pennekar and IPS officer Seema Latkar have started the investigation in the case.
In this regard, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said that action should be taken against any individual who has committed something wrong.
"There is no problem for alliance candidates; if somebody has done something wrong, then action should be taken against them according to the relevant law. I have nothing much to say," Pralhad Joshi said. (ANI)
