Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], December 4 (ANI): Targeting Congress over its Assembly polls defeat in three states, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said that the grand old party lost due to its self-centred attitude of neglecting the alliance partners which costed them.
Addressing a press meet in Thrissur, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, "Election Result was against the expectations, especially in three states people expected BJP to face backlash. Congress took a stand against uniting with other parties in these three states. They expected a big win by standing independently. That's how they managed things."
Claiming that Congress was not ready to join hands with other parties, the Kerala Chief Minister said, "In Madhya Pradesh, Samajwadi party has the upper hand in certain areas. Digvijaya Singh offered them seats but Kamal Nath was against it. The self-centred attitude of Congress backfired in Assembly polls."
He further pointed out that Congress decided to keep CPIM and other parties out in Rajasthan where it could have joined hands to give a strong competition to BJP.
"In Rajasthan, Congress had good chances and they could have added a few parties including CPI(M) but they decided to contest alone. If they had fought together it would have been a great win in Rajasthan and a similar situation happened at Chhattisgarh," Kerala CM said.
Kerala Chief Minister also alleged that senior Congress leader Kamal Nath tried to become B Team of BJP.
"Kamal Nath's attitude is the same with people who spread communalism. Kamal Nath tried to become a B Team of BJP. Congress's national leadership didn't stop it. Secular forces should have stood together. But they're greedy for power. The aim should have been to defeat the BJP and not to get to power, Congress was selfish," CM Vijayan said.
Congress suffered defeats at the hands of the BJP in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh in the recent Assembly polls which concluded on December 3. However, it is set to form a government in Telangana after ousting Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) from power. (ANI)
