Security beefed up in Tripura for Republic Day

Agartala (Tripura) [India], Jan. 26 (ANI): The security has been beefed up in Tripura as the Union Home Ministry has alerted the Indian north eastern states to maintain strict vigil in the run-up to the Republic Day and foil any attempt by separatist outfits to create a vicious situation.

Security beefed up in Tripura for Republic Day
Agartala (Tripura) [India], Jan. 26 (ANI): The security has been beefed up in Tripura as the Union Home Ministry has alerted the Indian north eastern states to maintain strict vigil in the run-up to the Republic Day and foil any attempt by separatist outfits to create a vicious situation. The police vigil in busy areas, roads, markets as well as sensitive interior pockets and patrolling on the border areas has been intensified. Checking of vehicles in and around capital Agartala has also been intensified. Though unlike previous years there is no specific report of any militant activity trying to disturb the Republic Day celebration, the security forces has not taken any chance. "All the security forces and other agencies have intensified anti-sabotage checking especially in public places and dog squad has been called in. Vehicle checking is also going on. Patrolling on the border has also been increased by the BSF and the international border has been sealed," said Abhijit Saptarshi, Superintendent of Tripura Police. Special emphasis are being given to congested markets, bus terminus, rail stations and airports with sniffer dogs and bomb squads pressed into service for regular checks. Police in civil dresses has also been increased for security purpose. The search operation is especially for the peaceful celebration of Republic Day as there is an alert has been issued. The elite Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and Assam Rifles (AR) has been kept as the second line of defence and are on special counter insurgency operation particularly in the remote and hilly areas. Tripura shares some 856 km border with Bangladesh where the Border Security Force (BSF) is organizing special day and night operation to stop any type of infiltration. (ANI)
