SC declines plea seeking Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir
New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday declined to entertain the plea seeking Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir under the provision of JK constitution, due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The petition was filed by the J&K National Panthers Party (NPP) last week, seeking Governor NN Vohra's intervention under section 92 of JK constitution in the interest of security, safety and fundamental rights of the Indian citizens residing in the Valley. The petition had also contended that the Governor of J&K should be directed to dissolve the assembly of the state, which has failed to discharge its duties and functions. Meanwhile, the apex court has sought a detailed report from Solicitor General, Ranjit Kumar, on the prevailing situation in the state. On Wednesday, Srinagar witnessed renewed protest after the state government lifted curfew leaving one dead and several injured. The Valley has been simmering with tension after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8.(ANI)
