SC asks CBI to conclude probe into purchase of 111 aircrafts by June
New Delhi [India], Jan. 5 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conclude the probe into the purchase of 111 aircrafts by June. The apex court disposed off the petition filed by the Center for Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in connection with the case in which the then UPA government had purchased the aircrafts and an NGO had sought an investigation into it. The NGO claimed in its petition that there were large-scale irregularities made while purchasing these aircrafts during the period from 2004 to 2008. The NGO claimed that the then UPA government had allegedly misappropriated a sum of Rs. 50,000 crore approximately for the purchase of these 111 aircrafts. An apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar disposed off the petition and asked the CBI to conclude the probe by June. The apex court also said that the Public Accounts Committee should be allowed to submit its report to the Parliament. (ANI)
