Sasikala pays tribute at Jayalalithaa's memorial before heading to Bengaluru
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Feb. 15 (ANI): All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary V.K. Sasikala on Wednesday paid floral tribute at late J. Jayalalithaa's memorial at Chennai's Marina beach before heading out to Bengaluru where she will be jailed following her conviction in the disproportionate assets case. She also visited the MGR Memorial House in T Nagar. According to reports, Chinnamma, as Sasikala is fondly called, and two others, will travel by car and later will be jailed in Parappana Agrahara prison. In a major blow to Sasikala, the Supreme Court earlier today rejected her plea for more time to surrender before a Bengaluru court. She may, however, seek two weeks time on health grounds. Yesterday, Supreme Court convicted Sasikala in connection with a 19-year old disproportionate assets case. A bench of Justices PC Ghose and AK Roy directed them to surrender forthwith to the trial court in Bengaluru and serve the remaining part of the four-year-jail term. The verdict has served a severe jolt to Sasikala as she cannot contest the elections for the next 10 years. The bench, however, abated the appeal proceedings against Jayalalithaa owing to her death.
