Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], February 25 (ANI): A day after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declared a "war against drugs" and used bulldozers to demolish houses of alleged drug smugglers, Abohar MLA and former Congress leader Sandeep Jakhar slammed the move, calling it mere propaganda with no real action on the ground.
Sandeep Jakhar said, "After three years of AAP, they remembered that they would start a war against drugs. These are only gimmicks. The Delhi model has failed, and people have shown them the mirror. Now they are talking about corruption and drugs. It is only propaganda, and there is no action on the ground."
Jakhar also questioned the Punjab government's priorities, pointing out that critical local issues remain unaddressed. "Already, the session is very short. There are local issues of Punjab. There are issues of Abohar. When will they talk about that? Canals are closed. Work has stalled in Abohar for the last three and a half years. The government has only fulfilled the constitutional requirements," he said.
The Punjab Assembly session commenced on Monday amid ongoing political tensions.
Meanwhile, Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema hit back at Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa over his claims that 32 AAP MLAs are in touch with him and ready to switch to the Congress. Cheema accused Bajwa of engaging in "low-level politics" to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to ANI, Cheema said, "He does low-level politics because he wants to join BJP. First, he sends his brother (Fatehjang Singh Bajwa) to the party... he is hungry for power. We stand firmly with Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann, and AAP. No MLA is going anywhere... Bajwa is an expert in spreading lies."
Cheema further alleged that, like his brother Fatehjang Singh Bajwa, Pratap Singh Bajwa is attempting to join the BJP while misleading the public with baseless claims. He reiterated that all AAP MLAs remain firmly aligned with the party leadership. (ANI)
