Rohtak gangrape reflects governments' failure: Congress
New Delhi [India], May 13 (ANI): The Congress on Saturday cornered the Haryana and central governments over the Rohtak gangrape incident, asserting that the incident reflects their failure on the law and order front. "Rohtak gangrape incident reflects the failure and negligence of the state government. Prime Minister does not have time to take cognizance of such a barbaric incident. What sort of governance and justice is this?," Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala told ANI. Asserting that the Haryana government should be ashamed of itself, Surjewala demanded strict action against the rapists. Echoing similar views, Congress leader Shobha Oza said, "Prime Minister Modi will have to wake up and take some serious action. It is very saddening. We want that this type of violence should be stop. There is no law and order." Congress president Sonia Gandhi expressed deep shock and outrage over the incident. "Smt. Sonia Gandhi has expressed deep shock & outrage over brutal gang rape, murder & mutilation of body of a young girl in Rohtak, Haryana," the Indian National Congress (INC) said in a tweet.

Smt. The incident took place on May 9 and came to light when the victim's body was found in city's IMT area. The victim had allegedly refused a marriage proposal, following which the accused along with his friends allegedly raped and murdered her. The forensic reports suggested that the victim was mutilated with sharp-edged weapons. The distraught parents have claimed that this ghastly attack was carried out by the girl's neighbour and have demanded capital punishment for the rapists. (ANI)
