Rohtak gang-rape: SIT formed, DNA test of accused ordered
Rohtak (Haryana), July 20 (ANI): The Rohtak Police on Wednesday formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the alleged gang-rape of a BSC (Honours) student of Government College for Women here. The SIT was constituted after Additional Director General of Police (ADGP-Law & Order) Muhammad Akil met the victim and her family at Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here and assured them of an impartial probe. The ADGP held a meeting with police officers and directed them to form an SIT on the case. He also directed the officers to get DNA test of all accused done. Following the direction, Rohtak Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Arya and Deputy Superintendent of Police Pushpa Khatri formed an SIT comprising DSP Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Crime Investigation Agency-1 (CIA-1) Rakesh Malik, sub-inspector (SI) Rajendra, SI Surendra (in charge of Cyber Cell), in charge Salara Mohalla police post ASI Sushil Kumar, and ASI Devi Rani, says a Rohtak police statement. Pushpa Khatri on Tuesday said a case is being investigated under various sections of the IPC and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) act in this connection. Khatri said out of the five accused, three were being interrogated and the contradictory facts were being verified. "Out of the five accused, we are interrogating three of them. Family members of the accused have given some CCTV footage. So, some contradictions are coming up, which we are verifying. Earlier, the case was first registered in Bhiwani, but now it is under our jurisdiction and we are taking it very seriously. We also saw the old files. Two of them were previously arrested in a gang rape case," she told ANI here. "We tried to talk to victim but she is not in the state to give statement. In first statement, we didn't come to know about the castes of the accused. This case is being investigated under various sections of the IPC and the SC/ST Act," she added. The Dalit girl, who was allegedly gangraped three years ago in Bhiwani by five men, had alleged that she was kidnapped and raped again by the same men in Rohtak on Wednesday last when she was returning home from college. Based on her complaint, police registered an FIR against Amit, Jagmohan, Mausam, Sandeep and Akash. While Amit and Jagmohan joined the investigation on Monday, families of Mausam and Sandeep approached the police with the evidence. (ANI)
