Rohatgi lauds SC for firm verdict on 'corrupt' Sasikala
New Delhi [India], Feb. 15(ANI): Attorney General of India Mukul Rohatgi on Wednesday praised the Supreme Court for delivering a firm verdict against AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala, in connection with a disproportionate assets case. He said the verdict signifies that corruption at the highest level will be dealt by the apex court. He further said the actual test of majority in the house should be conducted on the floor of the house only. "It is a path breaking verdict, as it shows that if corruption takes place even at the highest level, then the court will take action with a heavy hand," he said. Rohatgi said now it is the governor of the state who has to act to appoint the next government in the state. "The governor did the right thing by waiting for the Supreme Court verdict. The governor now in his discretion to appoint the chief minister, he can either have composite floor test between the heads of two rival groups in next couple of days and decide who will be the chief minister or if he finds that one group has overwhelming majority. He may also sworn in that person and then ask him to prove his majority in the floor of the house," he added. Rohatgi also suggested that Sasikala should surrender at the earliest. "Court has not set any time limit, so she has to surrender at the earliest and judgement has come yesterday. According to me she should surrender it today so that the judgement is complied with," Rohatgi told ANI. He said he expected the situation in Tamil Nadu to normalise over the next two days. (ANI)
