Rijiju hits back at Yechury, says Left "influencing" DU
New Delhi [India], Feb. 28 (ANI): Reacting to the recent controversy surrounding the Ramjas College scuffle, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday alleged the "far" Left affiliated political parties are trying to impose its ideology over Delhi University. "My only concern is the far leftist. They are trying to impose their ideology to the rest of the country and left is a discarded ideology which the country does not believe in. So, they are trying to spread their influence over DU also," Rijiju told ANI. Rijiju was speaking with reference to Tuesday's held student's protest against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the North Campus area of Delhi University. His comments were against Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, who participated in the protest today, alleging that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) wants to impose its regressive ideas on the country. "The RSS, ABVP want to impose all their regressive ideas on what you wear, eat, see, do or the way you live," he told ANI. Rijiju also said students should "stick to their own issues" rather than raising anti-national slogans. "My only concern is that (students) should not speak anything against the nation. Shouting slogans for freedom of Jammu and Kashmir and North East, they should not raise all unnecessary slogans that is not good for the nation. While doing politics in the campus they should stick to their own issues, they should not speak against the nation ," he added. CPI leader D. Raja, who accompanied Yechury during the protest march, said this is a collective fight to defend our constitutional rights. "We will be raising the issue of DU in the Parliament," he said. Last week, All India Students Association (AISA) and the ABVP engaged into a scuffle over cancellation of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid's talk at Delhi University's Ramjas College.
