Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], January 9 (ANI): Congress MP and AICC J&K In-charge Syed Naseer Hussain said that the Congress party has been running programmes across the country against the proposed VB-G-Ram-G Bill.
Speaking at the press conference, he said that landmark legislations such as the Right to Information Act, Forest Rights Act and MGNREGA, which guaranteed the right to work, were introduced during the Congress-led government.
"In the new bill, the right to work has been cancelled," he alleged.
This comes as the Parliament passed the VB-G RAM G bill, replacing the MGNREGA brought in by the UPA government. While the legislation raises the employment guarantee to 125 days as compared to 100 days in MGNREGA, the Opposition has criticised it for removing Mahatma Gandhi's name and placing a 60:40 fund-sharing ratio between the Centre and states.
The VB-G RAM G Bill was passed during the winter session of Parliament, with approval by both Houses. President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to the Bill on December 21, 2025, paving the way for its implementation.
Syed Naseer Hussain further accused the BJP of being "pro-businessmen and pro-corporate" and not standing with poor people. He claimed that under the SIR process, people whose names are deleted would be deprived of basic entitlements such as pensions and food.
"The BJP government is pro-businessmen and pro-corporate. It is not with poor people of the country," said Congress MP and AICC J&K In-charge.
Speaking on Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress MP said that the government is not serious about restoring statehood to J&K. He announced that the Congress party will soon launch the 'Har Ghar Dastak' programme in the region.
On the cancellation of an MBBS college, Syed Naseer Hussain said that the institution should have been granted minority status, noting that similar institutions exist in Karnataka. He said the decision would cause a major loss to students. (ANI)
