Rape victim suffers acid attack, police remains unhelpful

Mao (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 12 (ANI): A man attempted to burn the private parts of woman in an acid attack in Mao district after raping her. News of the incident surfaced after the victim escaped her kidnapper and lodged a complaint at the Kotwali Police Station. According to the victim, Ramkanth Yadav, the rapist, was a friend of her husband. Subsequently he burnt her private parts with acid. The victim escaped and reached the Haldharpur Police station where the police refused to lodge her complaint since her house was situated in the area under the Kotwali Police Station's jurisdiction. The woman has alleged that police in Haldharpur were uncooperative and did not help her. She also alleged that the Kotwali Police did not lodge her complaint with the urgency required. An advocate representing the woman said the offender had kidnapped and raped her for 15 days after which he burnt her with acid. Re-medical assessments have been ordered after police assured that correct measures would be taken. (ANI)
