Ramjas Principal urges students to respect each other's ideas
New Delhi [India], Feb. 27 (ANI): Ramjas College Principal Rajendra Prasad on Monday urged the students not to get involved in any activity which would spoil the college's image and asked them to respect each other's space and ideas. "I have made a written appeal to all the stake holders and students to respect each other's space, each other's ideas. They should confront ideas that is the major part of the appeal." Prasad told ANI. Prasad, who is retiring tomorrow, has also asked the students to preserve Ramjas' stature. "I have put 32 years of blood, sweat and tears to bring Ramjas to its present stature kindly preserve it," he said. Earlier today, Prasad in a written letter appealed to the students to resolve the problems in a respectful, peaceful and constructive manner to protect and preserve the educational environment. "I appeal to the students of this illustrious college, for which we have toiled so hard, day and night, not to get involved which spoils the name and dignity of Ramjas to adopt peaceful modes to deal with any conflict of ideas," the letter read. Earlier on February 21, the ABVP members staged a protest outside Ramjas College against an event that had Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid as speaker. Following this, a clash broke out between the AISA and the ABVP students last week over cancellation of Khalid's talk. The two-day seminar was organised by Wordcraft, the Literary Society of the College, on 'Cultures of Protest' a series of seminars exploring representations of dissent in literary productions. According to the college authorities, the event was cancelled to maintain peace in the campus. Earlier on Sunday, a Lady Sri Ram College student Gurmehar Kaur, the daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh, alleged that she received rape threats on social media after her social media campaign against the ABVP recently went viral. Kaur faced verbal backlash on Facebook, with many saying her father would be extremely unhappy with her for supporting 'anti-nationals'. Reacting to this, Kaur said that her campaign is aimed at raising voice against organisations, which challenge the law of the land and try to curb the fundamental right of 'freedom of speech'. "I will not be scared or be cowed down, my father took a bullet for the country and I am also ready to take bullet for the country, I also have the courage to take a bullet for the nation. I want all students to raise their voices against the violence and say that they will not tolerate this," she said. (ANI)
