Bhatinda (Punjab) [India], May 26 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh batted for 'One Nation, One Election' during his election rally in Punjab's Bhatinda on Sunday.
"BJP is going to form the government and within five years 'One Nation, One Election' will be implemented," Singh said.
He asserted that assembly and general elections should be held simultaneously as he took a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party-led government in Punjab. "Other parties have made many promises but never fulfilled any. The Punjab government is in debt and the Chief Minister is busy visiting Delhi 'darbar'," Singh added.
Taking a potshot at AAP Chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, he said that apart from Punjab, AAP has a government in Delhi, where its leaders went to jail in the liquor scam.
"The leader should have morality and every leader should have the moral courage to resign from their post if they face any allegations until being cleared of the charges. Kejriwal continued to be the CM even after going to jail in the liquor scam. We have heard of work from home but first time seeing work from jail," he said.
Singh also targeted Kejriwal in the alleged assault on Swati Maliwal at the CM's residence, he said, "Everyone has a mother, sister and daughter. No matter which party they belong to. Why is Kejriwal silent? Does Kejriwal have the right to remain CM? If Kejriwal is like this, then what will be the condition of CM Punjab?"
Singh further said that he is a farmer's son and knows farmers better adding that a lot remains to be done for the farmers. "Indian farmers are getting the cheapest urea fertilizer in the world. Even on the borders, it is the son of a farmer who fights the enemies," he added.
"A Pakistani MP said that India is moving towards becoming a world superpower. Pakistan is begging to save its reputation," he said further.
In his inaugural address on the floor of the National Assembly (NA) following the 2024 elections, JUI-F chief and Pakistani Opposition Leader, Maulana Fazlur Rehman drew a sharp contrast with India, asserting, "India is dreaming of becoming a superpower, while we are begging to avoid bankruptcy. Who is responsible for this?" ARY News reported.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman attributed the nation's predicament to unseen forces orchestrating decisions from behind the scenes, reducing elected officials to mere puppets. "There are powers behind the walls controlling us, and they make decisions while we are just puppets," he claimed.
Rajnath Singh launched scathing attacks on the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress in his two earlier public meetings as he campaigned for BJP's Fatehgarh Sahib candidate Gejja Ram Valmiki and Bathinda candidate Parampal Kaur.
In Punjab, the voting for 13 seats will take place in a single phase in the seventh and final phase on June 1. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the INC-led UPA alliance won eight seats, while the NDA secured four. (ANI)
