Dhanbad (Jharkhand) [India], November 15 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday accused the ruling JMM-led alliance of resorting to lies in the campaign for assembly polls and strongly pitched for 'one-nation, one election', saying it will save money of people.
Addressing an election rally here, Rajnath Singh said that elections are held frequently in the country and lakhs of crores of public money is spent.
He said opposition parties are not concerned about such use of money belonging to people.
"It is your hard earned money and you do not know. These people (opposition parties) have not cared for this. Our Prime Minister showed concern. He said that elections happen around the year and we keep spending public money, this should not continue. The election to assembly and Lok Sabha will be held simultaneously and elections such as those to gram panchayat, nagar panchayat, and district panchayat, these will also be held simultaneously. I want to ask you, will this (step) save money, Yes, it will save money. No one cared for this earlier, if anyone has cared for it first, it is our Prime Minister," Rajnath Singh said.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had in September this year, accepted the recommendations of the High-Level Committee on Simultaneous Elections under the chairmanship of former President Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
The committee had recommended that in the first phase Lok Sabha and assembly elections should be held simultaneously and local body elections (panchayat and municipalities) should be held within 100 days of general elections. The committee proposed a common electoral roll for all elections.
Rajnath Singh claimed that tribal population in Jharkhand has come down, noting that earlier it was 52 pc of the population and now is has come down to about 28 pc.
"They trying to get your support by telling lies. Where do they want to take the country? What kind of politics they want to do? That is why I ask for your support," he said.
He said the BJP-led NDA government has taken several decisions for the welfare of people.
He also recounted efforts of the government towards the diaspora and the Indian students studying abroad if they face a difficulty.
Rajnath Singh said that students from Ukraine were evacuated following efforts by PM Modi.
He said PM Modi had spoken to leaders of Ukraine and Russia for safety of Indian students amid conflict between the two countries
The union minister said a BJP-led government will frame laws to return land taken by "infiltrators", give Rs 2100 to women every month and provide 5 lakh jobs in five years. (ANI)
