New Delhi [India], October 13 (ANI): Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are expected to meet party National President JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah today in the national capital to discuss the upcoming by-elections in the state, sources said.
According to the sources, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Deputy Cheif Minister Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa, BJP Rajasthan President Madan Rathore, state in-charge Radha Mohan das Aggarwal, co-incharge Vijay Rahatkar will be in the meeting.
A core group meeting was earlier held in Rajasthan, in which names of the 7 candidates for bypolls were discussed, and the names will be finalised in Delhi.
"A core group meeting was held in Rajasthan in which names in 7 seats for by-elections were discussed. All the proposed names will be finalised in Delhi with party national President JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah today," the sources said.
Notably, the by-elections on the 7 assembly seats of Deoli Uniara, Dausa, Jhunjhunu, Chaurasi, Salumber, Khinvsar and Ramgarh are expected to be held soon.
The bypolls were necessitated after Congress MLA from Deoli Uniara, Harish Meena; Congress MLA from Dausa, Murarilal Meena; Congress MLA from Jhunjhunu, Brijendra Ola; Bharat Adivasi Party MLA from Chorasi, Rajkumar Roat and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party MLA from Khinvsar, Hanuman Beniwal have now become MPs after winning the Lok Sabha elections.
On the other hand, Congress MLA from Ramgarh, Zuber Khan and BJP MLA from Salumber, Amritlal Meena passed away, vacating the two seats.
The Election Commission is likely to announce the dates for the by-elections soon.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 14 seats and Congress won 10, while the Bharat Adivasi Party won the lone seat of Banswara. This was a sharp drop for BJP, which had won 24 seats in 2019.
In 2023, the BJP stormed back to power in Rajasthan, as the state continued with its trend of alternating power between BJP and Congress. BJP won 115 seats while the incumbent Congress under Ashok Gehlot's leadership was reduced to 70 seats. BJP's Bhajanlal Sharma took oath as the Chief Minister. (ANI)
