Aizawl (Mizoram) [India], October 17 (ANI): After Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that the ruling Mizo National Front and Zoram People's Movement "are the instruments for the RSS and BJP to enter" the northeastern state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lalremsangi Fanai termed the statement "baseless" and demands "proof".
"This is his personal statement. Every party has its own agenda. Our party has made it clear that we will contest on our own. Other parties - ZPN and MNF - also stated that they are fighting them alone," the bjp-leader">BJP leader said.
She further said that we all are going to fight the election together under the umbrella of democracy.
"So, this is clear enough to say that we all are going to fight the election together under the umbrella of democracy - that will be decided by the people. That is his personal statement. That is baseless. Where is proof? Let him give the proof. We demand proof," he added.
bjp-leader">BJP leader further said that BJP will be declaring our candidate list very soon.
"Our party will be declaring our candidate list very soon. It is a unilateral decision. No other party has any role in our party's decision. It is decided jointly with the state party leaders and the central leaders," Fanai said.
When asked about Rahul Gandhi's visit to Mizoram, Lalremsangi Fanai said that for the last so many years they have ruled the state, we have seen it.
"We have seen Congress Government. For the last so many years they have ruled the state, we have seen it...People will decide," she added.
bjp-leader">BJP leader Pratyush Kanth said,"Rahul Gandhi says anything. Most of the time I don't take him seriously because most of the time he can say anything without understanding what he is saying. To understand northeast, he has to spend time in northeast, read about northeast, understand the people of northeast...Stop talking like a dynast..."
"...I see Congress struggling here...I have talked to a lot of people, I have spent a lot of time here - trust me, they are not here. Ragul Gandhi has to understand that your politics of hatred can only take you to a level. Beyond that, it is all about development...He has to understand the culture, tradition, the language, what is important for people of Mizoram..." he added.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who is on his two-day visit to Mizoram expressed confidence about the party's victory in the Mizoram assembly polls.
Addressing a press conference here, Rahul Gandhi said that the assembly poll on November 7 is about defending the idea of Mizoram.
"Both the parties ZPM (Zoram People's Movement) and MNF (Mizo National Front) are instruments for BJP and RSS to enter the state (Mizoram). Congress party can never be an instrument to enter (state) because we are ideologically completely against the BJP," he said.
Gandhi urged people to "foil BJP's game".
"This election is about defending the idea of Mizoram. It is about protecting your freedom, tradition and religion. Please ensure that the BJP's game is foiled! The Congress has fought the BJP-RSS truth and nail. It is the party that is most aggressively attacked by the BJP," he said.
MNF is an ally of BJP in the National Democratic Alliance.
In the 2018 elections, Mizo National Front bagged 26 seats with a vote share of 37.8 per cent. Congress secured five seats and BJP won one seat.
The counting of votes in all five states will take place on December 3. (ANI)
