Rahul Gandhi released after third detention, says "this is Modi's India"
New Delhi [India], Nov. 3 (ANI): Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi who was released after being detained for a third time as he tried to join the protest against the alleged suicide of an ex-serviceman, lashed out at the Centre highlighting the dictatorial condition under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shortly after he was released from the Tughlak road Police Station, Rahul took a jibe the Prime Minister Modi saying this is "Modi's new Hindustan." Rahul also alleged that the police refused to accept his complaint when he tried to file one about his alleged "abduction." "We tried to file a complaint in the police station but they refused. If they are refusing to file a complaint of a legislator than imagine the plight of the common man," Rahul told the reporters here. Echoing similar sentiments Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia who was also released following his detention accused the Prime Minister of disrespecting Indian soldiers. "Grewal's family members were beaten up and manhandled. I want to ask BJP, if this is the kind of respect they pay to our soldiers," Scindia told ANI. After being detained for the third time in two days over his agitation against the Centre Rahul Gandhi remained adamant on an apology from the government over the ill-treatment and abuse meted out to the deceased veterans family by the Delhi Police. "They (police) have kept me in this car for more than half an hour and are not letting me go," Gandhi told ANI here from the Delhi PCR van in which he was detained. Further stating that the police detained him after invoking Section 144- which empowers a magistrate to prohibit an assembly of more than four people in an area, Gandhi added that he has not been informed as to what the police intends to do with him. "Yesterday the family of the deceased veteran were treated miserably right in front of me. They were dragged and abused I am outraged by that as this affects the morale of our soldier protecting us on the borders. I want the Centre to apologise to the family," he added. High drama ensued at Jantar Mantar today when Gandhi tried to join the candle march but was almost immediately flanked by cops and taken away to Tughlaq Road Police Station. Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi reached the residence of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal in Bhiwani, Haryana to attend his cremation ceremony. Earlier, Rahul was stopped close to the gates of the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and then taken to the Mandir Marg Police station. (ANI)
