New Delhi [India], July 28 (ANI): Congress MP Rahul Gandhi condoled the deaths of three students in basement flooding at a coaching centre in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar on Sunday.
In a post on X, the Congress leader termed the incident a "combined system failure."
"The death of competitive exam students due to waterlogging in the basement of a building in Delhi is very unfortunate. A few days ago, a student died due to electric shock during the rains. express my heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families," Rahul Gandhi said in the post.
"This collapse of infrastructure is a combined system failure. The common citizen is paying the price of unsafe construction, poor town planning and the irresponsibility of institutions at every level by losing his life," he added.
Gandhi said that a safe and comfortable life is the right of every citizen and the responsibility of the government.
Congress leader Pawan Khera called it a man-made tragedy and questioned the licenses of the coaching centre.
"It is not a natural disaster. How was a coaching centre running in the basement? Did they have licences? Did they have all the papers from MCD? We have not got answers to these questions. It is very easy to question each other and make allegations and counter-allegations but the common man is suffering in this. Such an insensitive government in the national capital is extremely wrong, be it MCD or the government," Pawan Khera said while speaking to ANI.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi called the incident "the height of negligence and mismanagement."
In a post on X, Priyanka Gandhi said on Sunday that the incident of the death of three students due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching institute in Delhi is heartbreaking.
"I pray to God for the departed souls and the bereaved families. Recently, a student died due to electric shock in Patel Nagar. It is the height of negligence and mismanagement that the lives of children who come here from far-off places to fulfil their dreams are being snatched away from them," she said.
Delhi police on Sunday arrested two persons, the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching centre, where basement flooding due to rains claimed lives of three students in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar.
According to the police, the victims have been identified as Shreya Yadav, a native of Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana; and Nivin Dalwin, a resident of Kerala's Ernakulam.
The Central Delhi incident comes days after a UPSC aspirant was electrocuted on a waterlogged street in the national capital. (ANI)
