Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands) [India], April 17 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bishnu Pada Ray, took a dig at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi saying that the latter cannot sit in Parliament for more than an hour.
"Rahul is a Pappu...He cannot even sit in Parliament for more than an hour. Why does he go outside? His mind does not work," Ray told ANI at Port Blair on Wednesday.
Hitting out at former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Ray said, "Rajiv Gandhi brought foreigners here without passport. After him, his family Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi never came here. Narasimha Rao, Manmohan Singh did not come. Even Kharge did not come here."
Speaking about the contribution of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the islands, the BJP leader said, "Who brought the Andaman Trunk Road here?..Who brought medical college, law college here? PM Modi. Mobile phones were not there earlier. Vajpayee started it and PM Modi brought it here."
"Employment in Andaman Nicobar was brought here. Earlier there was loot and commission," he added.
Speaking about the alleged neglect by the Congress party in Andaman and Nicobar, the BJP candidate said, "Congress is distant from people. It has not done any work here. They did not even spend the MP's fund."
Ray also hit out at Congress candidate from Andaman and Nicobar, Kuldeep Rai Sharma saying that the latter has emerged as a don in the islands.
"Kuldeep has got into so many thefts that he has become a don in Andaman. No one will vote for him. Even Muslims will not vote for him...Let him list three works that he has done," he said.
On former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru allegedly gifting the Coco Islands to Myanmar, Ray said that the country's first Prime Minister is a "traitor."
"Pandit Nehru is a traitor, an enemy. He has given off two islands to Burma, to China," Ray said.
Earlier on Sunday, Bishnu Pada Ray, hit out at the Congress claiming that the grand old party has always harboured 'anti-India' sentiments.
Speaking to ANI on Sunday, he claimed that the country's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, gifted the Coco Islands, which were part of the Northern Andaman Islands, to Myanmar.
"The Congress has always harboured anti-India sentiments. Nehru gifted the Coco Islands, which were part of the Northern Andaman Islands, to Myanmar, which is currently under China's direct control. They did not worry about the islands in the 70 years they were in power. Today, the central government is constructing a shipyard, and two defence airports to counter China in Campbell Bay, which is also known as Indira Point," the BJP candidate claimed.
Kuldeep Rai Sharma of the Congress is the current MP from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In the 2019 general elections, Sharma emerged victorious over the BJP's Vishal Jolly.
Polling for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be held in the opening phase, on April 19. (ANI)
