Punjab, Punjabis and Punjabiyat need to win this time: Sidhu
Amritsar (Punjab) [India], Jan. 18 (ANI): Asserting that he is not here to fight 'personal battles', Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday said Punjab, Punjabis and Punjabiyat need to win in the upcoming state assembly polls. Sidhu, who filed his nomination from Amritsar East, said he wants the youth of Punjab to walk on the right path, adding that it was important for him to come into the system and fight. "I want to tell all the Congressmen and the Punjabis to cast their votes for Punjab...to establish religion. Punjab, Punjabis and Punjabiyat need to win this time. He who joins gets respect....and he gets insulted who divides," Sidhu said. Stating that wrong policies have drowned Punjab, the cricketer-turned politician said that those who divided Punjab have to be taught a lesson. "This time voting should not take place for Rs. 500 or for selfish motives. Those who want to unite Punjab have to win. The Punjabis must gain 100 percent interest. This fight is for every Punjabi...every Punjabi will win this time," he added. Sidhu's associate and former hockey player Pargat Singh has been allotted the ticket from Jalandhar Cantt, with Jalandhar DCC Rural president Jagbir Singh Brar chosen to contest from the Nakodar seat. In his debut assembly polls, the crickter-turned politician faces Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajesh Honey. Sidhu is expected to be the Congress' star campaigner in the poll-bound state as he is likely to address as many as 70 rallies. Punjab will vote on February 4 and the counting will take place on March 11. (ANI)
