New Delhi [India], January 30 (ANI): After a vehicle with a Punjab registered car was found containing AAP pamphlets and multiple liquor bottles with cash worth lakhs near Delhi's Punjab Bhawan, BJP leader RP Singh accused the Punjab government of being involved and deploying its officers in the national capital, urging the Election Commission of India to take immediate action.
"A vehicle with Rs 10 lakh cash, AAP stickers and posters was seized near Punjab Bhawan. We have been saying to the Election Commission of India that the Punjab government is involved in this and they have deployed their officers here...I hope the Election Commission of India will take cognizance of this," Singh told ANI.
According to the Delhi Police, the vehicle was standing near Punjab Bhavan on Delhi's Copernicus Marg with "Punjab Sarkar" written on it.
"Today information was received that one suspicious vehicle with a Punjab registration plate and 'Punjab Sarkar' written on it is standing near Punjab Bhavan on Copernicus Marg. On searching, a huge amount of cash, many liquor bottles and pamphlets of Aam Aadmi Party were found inside the vehicle. Appropriate legal action is being initiated at Police Station Tilak Marg of New Delhi District," the police said in a statement.
However, Punjab government issued a clarification that the number plate on the vehicle is "forged and fake," and refuted any allegations of the car being connected to the state government.
According to the state government, "the vehicle is registered in the name of Maj Anubhav Shivpuri was posted in Army Dental College, Pathankot 3 years back and is a permanent resident of Khadki, Maharashtra".
Mentioning that the number plate had no High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP), the state government also added that the make and model of the car which was searched by Delhi Police did not match their records.
The Punjab government said that the registered vehicle model on the registration number caught by Delhi Police did not match with their records as some other vehicle was registered on the registration number and this mismatch confirms that the vehicle's number plate was forged and fake.
"High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) is mandatory for all vehicles and the registration plate visible in the video is an ordinary one, without the features of HSRP, hence easy to forge," the statement read."We have searched our records and found that no such vehicle is owned or hired by Govt of Punjab. The apprehended vehicle does not belong to Govt of Punjab at all," the statement added. (ANI)
