Protest not against ideology, but against violence in Delhi University: Gurmehar Kaur
New Delhi [India], Feb 27(ANI): Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur on Monday made it clear to her detractors that her opposition to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) was not on grounds of ideology, but on what actually happened in the Delhi University campus last week. Clearing the air about her social media campaign against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the wake of last Wednesday's violence at Delhi University's Ramjas College, Lady Sri Ram College student Kaur said Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid was not even present when the incident took place. "Stones were not pelted on Umar Khalid (the JNU student, who had been invited to Delhi University event, which the ABVP objected to). He was not even present there. The stones were pelted on students who were there. Violence took place as it was opposed to the invitation extended to JNU student Umar Khalid," she said. Gurmehar Kaur took her objection to the ABVP-led agitation further on Monday by lodging a complaint with the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), alleging that she had been threatened with rape on social media. In the complaint to DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal, the daughter of Kargil braveheart, Captain Mandeep Singh said threats to her life and outraging her modesty were made on social media. Maliwal said she had been provided with proof of the same and added that the DCW would take appropriate remedial action with the help of the police. Kaur, who had launched a social media campaign titled 'I'm not afraid of ABVP', was trolled by actor Randeep Hooda, former cricketer Virendra Sehwag and Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju.
