Priority is to maintain peace in Delhi, not Home Minister's resignation, says Mamata

Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) [India], Feb 28 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that political discussions involving Union Home Minister's resignation can take place later while stressing that the need of the hour is to maintain peace in Delhi.
"Right now, the problem should be solved, political discussions can take place later," Banerjee told the reporters here on Opposition's demand of Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation in the wake of violence in North- East Delhi.
Expressing concern over the Delhi violence, the Chief Minister said, "What happened in Delhi is very upsetting. It should not have happened. Police personnel and an IB officer lost their lives along with several people. The victims' families should be given help and peace should return."
Banerjee had visited Bhubaneswar to attend the 24th Eastern Zonal Council meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting of Council comprises of states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal.
The meeting was also attended by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, among others.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik earlier in the day also hosted a lunch for Amit Shah, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Mamata Banerjee and Nitish Kumar at his residence in the city.
The last meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council was held in Kolkata on October 1, 2018. (ANI)
