Prez elect Kovind's family beams with pride
Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 20 (ANI): After Ram Nath Kovind secured a comfortable win in the 2017 Presidential election, his family is beaming with pride. President elect Kovind's daughter Swati told ANI, "People all over India are celebrating. We all are very happy. It is a proud moment for us." His daughter-in-law said, "We are feeling very happy. He is very simple and a quite person. He cares for everyone." Kovind, a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee on Thursday won the presidential elections by defeating Opposition candidate Meira Kumar. Kovind got 7,02,044 votes out of a total of 10,69,358 while his opponent and former Lok Sabha speaker Kumar secured 3,67,314 votes. Kovind will take oath as 14th President of India on July 25 as incumbent Pranab Mukerhjee's last day as president is on July 24. Addressing the media after winning the election, Kovind said his foremost duty would be to uphold the Indian Constitution and serve the marginalised sections of the society. He said his ascension to the President's office was a message for the people who work with utmost dedicational and honesty. (ANI)
