Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 20 (ANI): Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Ambadas Danve has called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to provide a 'clarification' on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleging large scale voter fraud in elections.
Calling the Congress leader's remarks as the being presented with "solid proof", he also accused the ECI of engaging in "political talk".
"These are not baseless allegations. Rahul Gandhi has presented everything with solid proof. He has not made allegations; he has simply shown the truth to us. The Election Commission should provide clarifications regarding this. They should not engage in political talk," UBT leader Danve reporters here on Friday.
Earlier, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal sought a reply from the Election Commission of India to the questions of the Karnataka Crime Investigation Department (CID) regarding the recent vote theft allegations.
"We are asking the Election Commission just one primary question - Why don't they respond to Karnataka CID, which is seeking information from the Election Commission over Aland?," Venugopal told reporters.
On September 18, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference in the national capital and accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of protecting "people who are destroying Indian democracy".
He claimed that a "certain group of people" are systematically cutting the votes of minority groups who specifically vote for Congress.
The Congress leader further claimed that at least 6,000 votes have been deleted in the Aland Assembly constituency segment in Karnataka.
"In Aland, Karnataka, 6018 votes, somebody tried to delete these votes. We don't know the total number of votes deleted in 2023 elections, but somebody got caught. It was caught, by most crimes, by a coincidence. What happened was that the Booth Level officer noticed that her uncle's vote has been deleted. When she checked she saw that her neighbour had deleted the vote," he added.
In response, the Commission has refuted all the allegations raised the party leader, stating that "no deletion of votes can be done online by any member of the public."
The poll body said, "Although Elector of the constituency can fill Form 7 online to apply for deletion of an entry from that particular constituency, it does not mean that the entry gets automatically deleted merely by submitting the Form 7. As per Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, no name is deleted from the roll without issuing a notice to the affected person and giving him an opportunity of being heard." (ANI)
