Pollution woes: Delhi metro suspends excavation, backfilling works

New Delhi [India], Nov. 7 (ANI): In view of the thick smog in the national capital and adjoining areas since the last few days, the Delhi Metro management has decided to take the following measures at its construction sites with immediate effect.

Pollution woes: Delhi metro suspends excavation, backfilling works
New Delhi [India], Nov. 7 (ANI): In view of the thick smog in the national capital and adjoining areas since the last few days, the Delhi Metro management has decided to take the following measures at its construction sites with immediate effect. Excavation/ Backfilling work will be suspended for five days. Dry dismantling of concrete/ Brick likely to cause dust pollution and dry stone cutting will be suspended for five days. DG sets will be stopped except those required for safety and security. Any other activity causing dust will be suspended for five days and additional water sprinkling at all sites. These steps have been taken as compliance of the instructions given by the Delhi Government regarding construction sites. As part of its work culture, the Delhi Metro accords very high priority to the issue of the preservation of environment, especially challenges such as dust control. Meanwhile, the Delhi Government has decided to close all schools for the next three days and shut down all constructions and demolitions for five days. The Delhi Government has announced several emergency measures to tackle the unprecedented level of pollution plaguing Delhi and the NCR. Water sprinkling on roads will begin tomorrow and vacuum cleaning measures to deal with dust pollution will start next week. The Badarpur thermal power plant will be closed for ten days from Monday. Landfill sites fire will be extinguished and transportation of fly ash will be stopped for 10 days. City government is also planning to bring back Odd Even scheme soon and preparations are already on. The MeT department has forecast little improvement in the current weather condition for the next three days. (ANI)
