Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India}, November 4 (ANI): After the inaugural session of the newly elected assembly in Jammu and Kashmir began with an uproar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kavinder Gupta on Monday said that the attempts to restore Article 370 were merely part of a "political drama" and nothing else.
Gupta, former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, said it was only natural for the BJP to protest against attempts to restore special status. Article 370 is history and it will never be restored, he added.
"This is a political drama and nothing else. It is known that Article 370 is history now and the article will never be restored. Chief Minister has also reacted to the demands of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). It is only natural for the BJP to protest against this. We should forget about (Article) 370 and work towards developing Jammu and Kashmir. I think PDP can benefit from this advice," Gupta said.
Speaking on PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para moving a resolution seeking restoration of Article 370 in the assembly, Gupta said that this has no basis or justification.
"The government should also understand that such things will only create controversies between us and nothing else," Gupta said.
Speaking on the statement made by Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha in his address about restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Gupta said that the central government also agrees that statehood of Jammu and Kashmir should be restored but there needs to be an appropriate time for it.
"Our party has also said this before. Our central government also agrees with the same. But only at an appropriate time so that the peace (in the valley) is not affected. The central government is committed to the cause (of giving statehood to Jammu and Kashmir). Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken about it in the parliament as well. But an appropriate time is required for it," the BJP leader said.
The first session of the newly elected assembly in Jammu Kashmir kick started on Monday with the introduction of a resolution opposing the revocation of Article 370 and restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
An uproar erupted in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly when PDP (People's Democratic Party) leader Waheed Para, representing the Pulwama constituency introduced a resolution against the revocation of Article 370 and to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ruckus broke out in the assembly after BJP demanded that the remarks be expunged and the resolution disallowed. (ANI)
