Police on extra alert for peaceful Durga puja celebration in Agartala
Agartala (Tripura) [India], Oct. 5 (ANI): Despite, no reports of threat reported in Tripura so far, after the surgical strike by Indian army inside PoK, the state police said that they have intensified vigil across the Indo-Bangla international border to avoid any untoward incident ahead of Durga Puja. Tripura Director General of Police K. Nagraj said, "Though there is no specific threat, but keeping in mind the overall national scenario, we have alerted everybody along the border." "We have intensified checking by putting drop gates in all roads leading to Agartala and interior roads. We have also intensified both mobile and foot patrolling on the highways, along with the checking through dog squad," Nagraj said. When concerns were expressed on how safe the state is especially after a large number of paramilitary forces were withdrawn from here for deployment on the western borders, the DGP said: "Not much number of BSF and Assam Rifles has been withdrawn as there is regular deployment of BSF and Assam Rifles here." Earlier, the union Home Ministry had directed all north-eastern states to ensure strict vigil in the region that shares borders with China, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Nagaraj further said that additional security arrangements have been made for peaceful celebration of the Durga Puja festival beginning from Friday. (ANI)
