Murshidabad (West Bengal) [India], February 1 (ANI): After Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday night in a money laundering case, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Thursday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah believe in exercising politics of vendetta adding that their goal is to politically harass the opposition leaders.
"Hemant Soren is being investigated now. BJP has only one agenda now, they don't want Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to become successful. Lalu Yadav, associates of MK Stalin, and AAP leaders are being questioned by ED and CBI. This only points towards that G2 that is Narendra Modi and Amit Shah believe only in politics of vendetta and political harassment," Jairam Ramesh said at a press conference in Murshidabad.
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) tried to tarnish his image by conducting raids at his Delhi residence.
A day after Soren's arrest, the Jharkhand Chief Minister Soren released a video message in which Soren claimed that he was not linked to the money laundering case in which he was arrested.
"Most probably ED will arrest me today, but I am not worried as I am Shibu Soren's son...After a full day of questioning, they decided to arrest me in a planned manner on matters that were not related to me," Soren said in a video message recorded just before his arrest.
On the current political situation in the state, Jharkhand Congress leader Shilpi Neha Tirkey says, "We have a full majority, so why is the Governor not calling us?"
Congress party's Jharkhand in charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir said that there are many MLAs in his party who can become soft targets and can be poached by BJP so they are being kept in a safe place until the Governor decides on the new government formation.
"There are many MLAs who could be soft targets. For safety reasons, we have kept our MLAs in a safe place," he said.
On the law and order situation in the state in view of the current political turmoil, Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha said that extensive deployment has been made in the state.
"The situation is peaceful. Police personnel have been deployed at around 150 places. Over 2,000 police personnel have been deployed," SSP said.
After a prolonged moment of speculation in the media and a hide-and-seek drama, Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Chairperson Hemant Soren was arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in the land scam case on Wednesday night.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, JMM Chief Hemant Soren met Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhawan and handed over his resignation after over six hours of questioning by the ED in connection with a money laundering probe linked to the alleged land scam case
Jharkhand Transport Minister Champai Soren, who was named as JMM legislative party leader, after Hemant Soren's arrest, claimed that he has the support of 47 MLAs and will continue to safeguard the pride of the state.
"We will continue to work to safeguard the pride of Jharkhand. We have staked a claim to form the government in the state. We have the support of 47 MLAs. You have seen how the voice of the Adivasis here has been suppressed over the years," he said. (ANI)
