People will lose faith in law if it is misused: CPI
New Delhi [India], August 6 (ANI): Following the bail granted to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Haryana chief Subhash Barala's son, Vikas Barala, who was arrested over stalking a woman in Chandigarh on Saturday, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has said that the misuse of law by the recognised section of the society should be avoided else people will lose faith in it. CPI leader Anne Raja, while speaking on the incident, told ANI, "This is a regular feature that police either refuse to file FIR of a common man (First Information Report) and conduct an enquiry or even if files, it would be done reluctantly after much insistence of the survivor or the victim, but there would be no enquiry or any legal proceedings." She further said that in lots of cases, police was also observed offering money to the victim's family to avoid filing FIR against the accused if they belonged to recognised families of the society. "In this case after making changes in the statement of the victim, the police had ensured the acquittal of the accused which was basically misusing the law and denying justice to the victim," she added. She slammed the legal system and said that the wrong doings of the police would lead to lose in faith in public and people would, therefore, shun filing report against the increasing crimes in the society. Vikas was on Saturday arrested for stalking and harassing a woman in Chandigarh. He was however, granted bail on the same day. The victim later thanked the Chandigarh Police for rescuing her on time, and said that she was protected by the law because she was the daughter of Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) and if she was a common man's daughter, the case would not be taken so seriously.
