Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 5 (ANI): West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, on Thursday targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led state government over the rape-murder of trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and said that the law is there but it not being implemented properly.
Governor Bose also alleged that a portion of the police is criminalised and politicized.
He said, "Parents (of the victim) have told me certain things which is very, very heart-breaking. They also gave to me in writing that I have taken up with the Home Minister. Within two days we started seeing action. Their feelings we understand. What they want is also justice. The entire Bengal society seeks justice. Justice will be done. Justice should be done. What I see in Bengal today, especially the administration is going from wrong to wrong. They should realize two wrongs, even if they are mutually contradictory, will not constitute one right."
He further emphasized that the government has to act and it has to take the people in confidence.
"The wrongdoers should be brought to book. Punishment should be given. People should feel that they can expect justice from the government, now that feeling is not there. This is the condition of Bengal today- the law is there but it is not being implemented properly or certain people are given protective discrimination by law. The police, a portion of the police is criminalised, a portion is corrupt and a portion of it is politicised," the Governor added.
The West Bengal Governor also warned the state government not to test the patience of the people.
"That's where the people has come forward. I am sure that the voice of the people is the voice of the god. People want action, not an alibi for an action. Don't test the patience of the people," he said.
Earlier, BJP national spokesperson Amit Malviya cited a letter dated August 10 allegedly signed by former principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandip Ghosh ordering renovation of the incident site a day after the trainee doctor was raped and murdered.
Malviya dubbed it as "explosive" as he alleged that the West Bengal government and the hospital lied regarding the date of renovation.
Malviya reiterated the demand of the Chief Minister's resignation and alleged that "much of the evidence" have already been destroyed.
"Mamata Banerjee and Vineet Goyal must be subjected to polygraph test, to unearth the truth. The movement for justice will continue," Malviya stated.
Leader of Opposition in West Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Thursday targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the alleged renovation order at RG Kar Hospital that was cited by BJP earlier.
"Mamata Banerjee's people were saying that the renovation order (of the room near the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital) was given to PWD before 9th August but today it has come to light that the order was received on August 10," Suvendu Adhikari said.
The body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of the hospital on August 9. The incident sparked nationwide protests. A civic volunteer was arrested shortly after. The CBI also arrested Dr Sandip Ghosh, for alleged financial misconduct at the medical establishment. (ANI)
