"India is a democratic country. Every citizen has right to put their point forward and to form a party or to join one. But it is up to people to decide what to do," said Fernandes. "It is good that she has taken the decision to fight elections," he added. Activist Irom Shamila today stated that she would contest state elections from Manipur. She has been fasting since 2000 against the Armed Forces Specials Powers Act (AFSPA) and has decided to end her protest on August 9.
