Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 22 (ANI): Two Congress legislators and one BJP legislator were sworn in by Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Pathania on Monday. After nine assembly by-elections, the Congress party has retained the previous 40 seats after winning six. Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee Chief, Pratibha Singh, said that it is a celebration mode for the Congress party as the BJP failed to topple the Congress government in the state.
"The way the BJP conspired to topple the government of Himachal Pradesh on February 27, the people of the state have given them a befitting reply. The people have told them that the way the BJP tries to topple elected governments with money and horse trading will not be accepted in Himachal. We were elected 40 legislators in the state in 2022, and I am happy that we have retained the same number of 40," said Pratibha Singh.
The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister said that the BJP failed to topple the elected government in the state, and people have taught them a lesson, and Congress retained its 40 seats, which was a mandate given by people in 2022.
"We want to make Himachal Pradesh a self-reliant state by 2027. We spoiled the four months of elections and the four months of disaster last year. We were appreciated by the World Bank, Niti Aayog, and the BJP leaders for our efforts in disaster restoration. We want the support of the people of the state, especially the BJP, which has been playing a negative role in the state. Recently, I met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari along with my PWD Minister and CPS Sunder Thakur. We have demanded the Union Minister build the Bhu-Bhu Jot tunnel and also the construction of four lanings. I would ask them not to become a hurdle in it. After the disaster, we did not get any help. We were expecting a special package, but we did not get it. I have taken up the issue with the Prime Minister and Home Minister of the country," said CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
"We are also working to ensure the safe future of the young generation, and we will have to take tough decisions on it. With the help of all, including the BJP, we shall have to move ahead. During the past 4 months, the BJP has spoiled our time in elections, and I would appeal to the BJP in the state to play an important and constructive role of opposition during the next 3 and a half years," said Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The Chief Minister's wife and newly elected Congress legislator, Kamlesh Thakur, said that she will try to do her best for the upliftment of people.
"Electricity, water, and service in my constituency would be my priorities. It is just the beginning, and my message to people is that I shall always be available for their services," said Kamlesh Thakur. (ANI)
