Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 5 (ANI): Maharashtra Congress leader Nana Patole on Tuesday launched a scathing attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections proved to be the defeat of PM Modi and BJP.
"This was the fight of people and they fought it to support Rahul Gandhi. A change has come in the country. People have replied to the dictatorship," said Nana Patole.
According to the latest trends from the Election Commission, NDA has won 295 seats and the INDIA bloc has won 230 seats. The Congress, which secured only 52 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, has won 99 seats.
"This is the defeat of PM Modi and BJP. Rahul Gandhi raised the voice of people from Kanniyakumari to Kashmir and Mumbai to Manipur. There will be a lot of 'Khela' tonight. Change will come," added Patole.
Meanwhile, the Congress party welcomed the results of the Lok Sabha elections and termed it the "political and moral defeat" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whose name the Bharatiya Janata Party campaign was run.
Notably, most exit polls predicted a straight term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with quite a few of them projecting a two-thirds majority for the ruling BJP-led NDA.
Rahul Gandhi won the seat of Raebareli by defeating the BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh by a margin of 3,90,030 votes. Gandhi had contested this seat, aiming to save the lone bastion of the party in the state after he lost Amethi in 2019.
The Congress leader also won the seat of Wayanad, which paved his entry to the Lok Sabha in 2019. He defeated Communist Party of India-Marxist candidate Annie Raja by 3,64,422 votes.
The Congress party will hold discussions with its allies as well as new partners today, party president Mallikarjun Kharge said. (ANI)
