Pay maintenance expenses to ST students of post-metric hostels: Telangana CM to officials
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], Nov. 24 (ANI): Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday instructed the officials concerned to pay maintenance expenses to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) students of post-metric hostels as was done with the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backward Class (OBC) students. The Chief Minister signed on the file pertaining to these instructions soon after formally functioning from the new building complex 'Pragathi Bhavan'. The action would benefit about 14,685 students staying in 101 ST hostels, said a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office. Thus far, bills were paid once in six months or a year in ST hostels, which resulted in students not getting their monthly expenses and sometimes were faced with problems to get their daily meal. Understanding the situation, the Chief Minister instructed that these students should be given their maintenance expenses every month. Every ST student would now get Rs 1,050 to Rs 1,250 per month. It is interesting to note that this is the first decision taken by the Chief Minister at Pragathi Bhavan today. (ANI)
