Patiala (Punjab) [India], September 25, (ANI): Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi reacted to incident of Patiala's RGNUL, where Vice Chancellor JS Singh allegedly entered the rooms of female students at the hostel without their consent or prior notice. Additionally, he has been also accused of allegedly making inappropriate and indecent comments while addressing the female students on multiple occasions.
In a post on X the Congress general secretary said, "It is extremely shameful that the Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi Law University, Patiala, suddenly entered the rooms of the girl students without informing them and checked them and made indecent comments on their dress."
The Congress leader also raised a question about moral policing and privacy issues at university after incident came in light.
"The things that the students have said to the media are extremely objectionable. Girls are capable of deciding their food, clothing and choice, of course. Moral policing and violation of privacy of girls by misusing the rights is unacceptable," she said.
She further said, "The Women's Commission should take cognizance of this matter and strict action should be taken against the Vice Chancellor."
Meanwhile, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) is closed until further orders.
"Considering the prevailing circumstances, on the recommendation of the Committee, keeping in view the safety and welfare of the students, the University shall remain closed with immediate effect till further orders. The willing students are allowed to proceed to their respective homes," the Office Order said.
On September 22, the agitated students held protests outside Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) against the Vice Chancellor (VC). They demanded the resignation of the vice chancellor. A special committee was being formed to examine their grievances and investigate the matter.
Professor Sharanjit Kaur, Prof. Naresh Kumar Vats, Dr. Geetika Wali, Dr. Ivneet Walia, Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, Dr. Shruti Goyal, Dr. Tanya Mander, Dr. Jashleen Kewlani, and Dr. Sidharth Dahiya are the members of the special committee. (ANI)
