New Delhi [India], December 13 (ANI): Demanding an 'urgent investigation' into the major security breach in Parliament, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday labelled the incident as an "affront to our democratic values".
Calling for 'swift and strict' action against those involved in the incident, Kejriwal posted from his official handle on X, "Today's breach in Parliament, on the solemn anniversary of 2001 attack, is an affront to our democratic values. The security of our temple of democracy cannot be compromised. An urgent investigation is vital to uncover who were the attackers, how did they get in, what were their motive(s). Action must be swift and strict."
Fellow party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha also condemned the security breach in the Lok Sabha, which came on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 terror attack on Parliament, calling it an "outright attack on democracy".
Also calling for a thorough probe into the incident, the AAP MP posted on X, "India still remembers the attack on our Parliament in 2001. Today's security breach is an agonizing echo of that dark day, reopening wounds on its anniversary. This is not just a breach; it's an outright attack on our democracy. An immediate and thorough investigation is needed to swiftly unmask the perpetrators. Our Parliament stands as a sacred symbol of our nation, and if this temple of our democracy isn't secure, then what can be? We must fiercely protect our democratic institutions."
Meanwhile, assuring a 'high-level investigation' after two unidentified men, carrying smoke canisters, breached the Lower House while it was in session, setting off thick smoke before being overpowered by some members.
"The incident that took place today is a matter of concern for all of us and is a serious issue. A high-level investigation is underway and stringent action will follow. A comprehensive security review of both Houses will be done in light of this incident," Speaker Om Birla said. (ANI)
