Pannerselvam writes to banks, asks not to operate party bank account without his consent
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Feb. 9 (ANI): The political crisis in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (AIADMK) has deepened overnight. In another blow to the AIADMK administration and general secretary V.K. Sasikala, ousted leader and Tamil Nadu incumbent Chief Minister O. Pannerselvam on Wednesday wrote a letter to the chief manager of the Bank of India, asking him not to operate the party bank account without his consent as the treasurer of the AIADMK. Issuing the letter in his capacity as the treasurer of the AIADMK, Pannerselvam wrote, "I request you not to permit anyone else to operate our AIADMK Party's above referred current account without my written consent and instructions." Pannerselvam cited Rule 20 Sub clause 2 of the said Byelaws of the AIADMK and said the general secretary is yet to be appointed and hence, the office bearers of the post of Members of the Central Executive Committee, Deputy General Secretary, Treasurer and Head Quarters Secretary nominated by the General Secretary will continue to hold office. Earlier, AIADMK members landed in Delhi to knock at the door of President Pranab Mukherjee in order to seek his intervention for bringing political stability in Tamil Nadu. Yesterday, moments after Sasikala addressed the media outside her Poes Garden residence and said the party will 'surely' remove Pannerselvam from all positions in the party, the incumbent Chief Minister hit back and said nobody can take the post of treasurer from him as he was appointed by late J. Jayalalithaa 10 years back. The midnight drama in the AIADMK unfolded minutes after Pannerselvam was removed from the post of party's treasurer. Sasikala waved and flashed victory sign to her supporters at her Poes Garden residence and said she had not forced Pannerselvam for anything. Sasikala held the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) responsible for the upheaval in their party and said she saw the opposition party leader and Pannerselvam exchanging smile and warmth in a recent assembly session. Pannerselvam retorted to the sardonic remarks and tweeted that smiling wasn't a crime. Sasikala had removed Pannerselvam from the post of the party's treasurer after he openly revolted at the memorial of Jayalalithaa and said that he was forced to resign from the post. (ANI)
