Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], February 2 (ANI): Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay celebrated the party's first anniversary with workers at the headquarters in Panaiyur in Chennai on Sunday.
Addressing the party's workers and leaders, Vijay asserted that the work to strengthen the party is underway.
"Now, works on strengthening the party is going on. Our first goal is the 2026 Elections. I request as a part of second-year inauguration; party cadres should do people welfare activities," he said.
The next election to elect all 234 members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is expected to be held in April-May 2026.
"In upcoming state elections, we have to join hands with people power, by showing our strength to the nation and we have to form and show democratic power sharing in Tamil Nadu. You all have to start work by today towards that big political goal," he added.
He also highlighted that in 1967, there was a big political shake in Tamil Nadu politics and a change was begun.
"Likewise, in 1977 there was another political shake. People's power was proved in those two elections. Hard work in those times is the basic reason for such victories. We shall create a similar new political pathway in the 2026 elections. Along with us people also getting ready for that change by heart," the TVK Chief said.
Vijay emphasized further that today is the second year beginning of one "victorious force".
"Today we are completing one year of the announcement regarding a big force 'Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam'. With announcing the party, and membership drive, we are analysing our political steps deeply, slowly and also going forward. In this one year how much criticism and trolling we would have seen? Without any haste and fear and having full faith in our ideology and policy, we are going forward honestly," he said.
Earlier on February 2, 2024, South superstar Thalapathy Vijay officially announced the name of his political party as 'Tamilaga Vetri Kazham' (TVK).
Vijay stated that Tamil people are the ones who gave him everything and he wanted to give it back to them.
Vijay is known for his eye-catching performances in films such as 'Theri', 'Master', 'Bigil', 'Beast' 'Puli', 'Thuppakki', 'Mersal', and 'Kaththi', among others.
Meanwhile, Cheif Minister MK Stalin is aiming to secure a second straight win in the Assembly polls and a fourth consecutive election win after leading the DMK to massive victories in Tamil Nadu in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 and 2024 and the Assembly polls in 2021.
In the Lok Sabha elections, AIADMK drew a blank, losing its lone parliamentary seat, Theni, which it had won as part of the NDA in 2019. The INDIA alliance, led by the DMK, swept all 39 seats. (ANI)
