Gurugram (Haryana) [India], August 2 (ANI): Launching a scathing attack on the opposition over ongoing Monsoon Session of the Parliament, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Saturday that they doesn't allow discussion on public issues in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, instead, their sole intention is to create noise to obstruct proceedings of the House.
Speaking to the media, Khattar said, "The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are platforms where the opposition and the ruling side sit together to discuss public issues, but they (the opposition) do not allow discussions; instead, they create noise to obstruct the proceedings of the House, which is their sole intention. Perhaps they think this has a significant impact on the public, but it has the opposite effect on the public because they do not let the House function."
"They (the opposition) have no issues to raise, so they disrupt the proceedings... Therefore, they should act with wisdom," he added.
Meanwhile, proceedings of the Upper House of the Parliament were adjourned till August 4 amid sloganeering by the Opposition against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in poll-bound Bihar.
Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, adjourned the House as the Opposition MPs demanded a discussion on the SIR exercise in Bihar. The Deputy Chairman dismissed the notices for the Suspension of Business in the House.
He denied permission to discuss the matter, saying, "The Election Commission is a constitutional body and the matter is subjudice in the Supreme Court."
Additionally, Members of Parliament from the INDIA bloc parties protested in front of Makar Dawar in Parliament on Friday, demanding a discussion in both Houses on special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
The protesting members, including Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, held a banner which reads "the SIR: war on democracy".
Both Houses of Parliament have witnessed heated exchanges and adjournments during the initial days of the Monsoon Session over the SIR exercise in Bihar. (ANI)
